This article is about laundry room essentials

If you have just started living on your own or if you want to upgrade your laundry room, then this article is for you. I know you can easily get overwhelmed by the stuff you need. Moreover, most of the products are costly, and you will probably buy them once every 10 years. In this blog post, I will guide you through the essentials of a laundry room.

1. Washing machine and tumbler dryer

It’s not necessary to buy the most expensive washing machine and tumbler dryer, because most of the features available you will never use.

Here are the things you have to consider when buying a washing machine and tumbler dryer:

  • Open in the front. This enables you to put the machines on top of each other or to add a countertop to them creating more working space.
  • Same series. This will give your laundry room a sleek look and feel. Moreover, manufacturers also tend to pay attention to the direction the doors open. If you want to place your washing and drying machines next to each other, you should search for machines of which the doors open the other way. If want to place the machines on top of each other you will probably want the doors to open in the same direction.
  • Laundry room capacity. If you are someone like me who does not want to do the laundry every week or you are thinking of having children shortly, I recommend taking machines with a capacity of 8 to 9 kg.
  • Weighting sensor. Another nice feature to have is a sensor that weighs your laundry. For an optimal result, it is better not to put too many clothes into your washing machine.
  • Heat pump tumble dryer. They are energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and better for your clothes as they use less heat.

Here are the washing machines and tumbler dryer I have:

2. Iron

Do you know the feeling when you are almost there after hours of ironing when you discover that silk blouse you should have ironed at the beginning of your session? Your iron is too hot and you will have to wait until it has cooled down. As it is late you will probably not do that leading to that you will have to wait before you can wear that beautiful skirt again.

Are you an ironing person like I am, but you don’t want to organize your laundry room per fabric? I have the perfect iron for you.

3. Steamer

When you are not such an ironing person or you want to give your clothes a short refresh after wearing them, you are a steamer person. Luckily these days, companies take aesthetics into account as well and make matching products such as the matching Philips steamer.

4. Fabric shaver

Another essential you need in your laundry room is a fabric shaver for all your cozy wool pullovers. If you are still with me, you probably know by now that I love the products of Philips. They are of good quality and stylish. They even have a shaver with the same look and feel as the ironing machine and steamer. Check out the fabric shaver GC026/80.

5. Not just another clothing roller

You will probably recognize the feeling you experience when your favorite dark shirt or jacket is covered with hair or dust. I have the perfect tool for you and no, it is not another clothing roller. It is an easy-to-use, sustainable, and stunning alternative you can use over and over again.

6. Drying rack and clothespins

If you have the space to install the wonderful built-in drying rack of Dryaway then you should go for it. Nobody will know you are doing the laundry as everything will stay in the same room without creating a mess.

But not all of us can afford or have the space to install such drying racks. There are a million solutions out there. Such as the following:

The first one is my favorite as it has wheels to move around and does not take up that much space.

Another choice you have to make is, do I buy plastic clothespins or plastic ones? You all know wooden clothespins are more sustainable, but I found out that they hurt my clothes. So I started to sand all my clothespins. It took up a lot of work as you can imagine. If you don’t want to put time and effort into these things or you don’t mind that they scratch your clothes, you should go for the wooden ones. Otherwise, I recommend the plastic ones.

7. On my wishlist

My boyfriend wears shirts every day, but is not a sweaty person, meaning that I don’t need to wash his shirts after wearing them once. It would be better for the shirt to steam them. That is why a steaming closet is on my wishlist for when I have the money and the space. I’m loving the Samsung Airdresser.
